My mother has recovered from jaundice. Last week she was bitten by a spider and turned yellow. (Quiet from the peanut gallery! Racist rejoinders will be met with swift Kung-fu strike.)
I am ashamed to admit that my gut, initial reaction to the news was minor amusement. Who gets jaundice??? Well call me Edith and send me down the Oregon Trail.
I was singing a different tune pretty quickly. A quick Google search revealed a few ghastly pictures of what spider bites can do to human flesh. Fortunately, now all my mother has to show for her bout with pestilence are two tiny puncture holes. Her abnormal yellow hue is subsiding. Praise be.
